MLA: Tina Beaudry-Mellor - Regina University

Dear Lord. Thank you for the Honourable Tina Beaudry-Mellor. We pray that you would give her continuing wisdom in her work at the Legislature. Bless her family with a hunger for the things of God. May she gain deep resources from her personal time with you that would make a positive difference for the people of Saskatchewan. Amen.

Tina Beaudry-Mellor was nominated as the candidate for Regina University on March 18th, 2015. She is best known as a long time instructor in the Department of Politics and International Studies at the University of Regina where she has been awarded for outstanding teaching as both a sessional and with the President's Teaching & Learning Scholars Award for Excellence in her collaboration on teaching civic engagement for post secondary institutions. Many of the MLAs on both sides of the Legislature have been invited to engage with students both in Tina's classes and at the Legislature as she regularly visits with them for the Speech from the Throne and the Budget.

Tina has published in everything from peer reviewed journals to op-eds and business magazines, commentating both on political & social issues. She is the former Chair of Equal Voice and served on the National Board as well as a former board member of the Saskatchewan Arts Board, the Community Investments Committee of the United Way and the Regina Transition House. At the University of Regina, she served for a considerable length of time on the Community Research Unit board of the Faculty of Arts. Tina has been the chief political analyst for Global Regina for every federal and provincial election since 2007. She has provided political analysis for radio, television and print media and is a strong social media user.

In addition to her academic work, she is the owner of a small management consulting business called TBM Strategies where she has done considerable policy work, most notably on streamlining processes for clients of both the Saskatchewan Immigrant Nominee program and on the Saskatchewan Surgical Initiative to reduce surgical wait times. She has also worked with the Continuing Education Centre of the University of Regina to write the Flexible Learning Strategy to build the institution's online, televised and blended course and program offerings for students.

Tina is married and has two very active teenage twins, Kayman and Montana - both of whom have represented Team Sask in multiple sports: track & field, swimming and most recently, her son played quarterback for the South Sask Selects at the Texas International Bowl this February.

  1. God of all

We pray for our province with hopes that those elected to lead, at every level, will work now for your people. We pray these men and women will humble themselves to the sacred task of governing for the people who cast votes, not the corporations and wealthy individuals who paid for influence. We pray for legislators who will care about jobs for the unemployed and underemployed, education and opportunity for children, and health care for all, especially the most vulnerable among us.

We pray for laws that will protect and respect the resources of our province, not a thing to be owned and exploited for profit by a few. We pray for regulations that will harness the hubris and greed of the financial sector. We pray for governance that knows the difference between a financial system and an economy, the one that has become a perverted and unregulated industry, the other a respect for all human life.

We pray for wisdom not rhetoric; generosity not indifference, and justice not patronage. We want legislators working across the aisle, not erecting barriers like the border walls that imprison even those who seek to keep others out. We pray for a just sharing in the expense of government, let those blessed with great wealth give according to their means, let all give as they are able.

We pray for leaders gifted in diplomacy, blessed with character and integrity; leaders who know our security comes from relationships of trust and communication.

For our part give us the patience to give our leaders a chance to govern with grace, compassion, justice, and love. Let us support sincere effort and celebrate wise compromise. Make us accountable to our faith and so hold those we elect accountable to serve all the people, not just those who can afford to pay for self-serving polices.

May we never cease to pray, and to hope, and to work for justice for all.

    Amen.
