MLA: Gene Makowsky - Regina Dewdney

Dear Lord. Thank you for Gene Makowsky. Thank you for his dedication to the people of Saskatchewan as well as the constituents of Regina Dewdney. We pray today that you would give him an extra serving of wisdom and inspiration. Give he and his family a special Christmas season and a refreshing new year. May it be a year of deepening spirituality and meaningful friendships. Amen.

Gene was first elected to the Legislature in the 2011 provincial election. He currently sits on the legislature’s Standing Committee on Crown and Central Agencies and the caucus’ standing committee on crown and central agencies. In May 2012, Gene was appointed Deputy Whip.

Gene graduated from the University of Saskatchewan in 1996 where he received his bachelor’s degree in education with distinction. He is best known for his 17 years playing offensive line with the Saskatchewan Roughriders. He was named the CFL’s Most Outstanding Lineman twice, a CFL All-Star five times and helped lead the Riders to a Grey Cup in 2007.

Known as a quiet leader, Gene is committed to giving back to the community. In the off-season he worked as a substitute teacher in the Regina Public School System and always attends as many charity and community events as possible. In 2008, Gene was hired by the provincial government to work with minor football to help aspiring players at the grassroots level in Saskatchewan excel on the football field.

Gene and his wife Tami call Regina home with their three boys, Nicholas, Ryan and Blake.
