Gene Makowsky MLA - Regina Dewdney

Dear Lord. We pray today for Gene Makowsky and the work that he does for the people of Saskatchewan. We pray that you would elevate his political capacity. Give him insightful strategies to keep helpful legislation from being bogged down. Give him a tentative grand-plan for his next season of legislative responsibilities. We also ask that you would give he and his family a great summer filled with memories and relaxation. Amen.

Gene was first elected to the Legislature in the 2011 provincial election. He currently sits on the legislature’s Standing Committee on Crown and Central Agencies and the caucus’ standing committee on crown and central agencies. In May 2012, Gene was appointed Deputy Whip.

Gene graduated from the University of Saskatchewan in 1996 where he received his bachelor’s degree in education with distinction. He is best known for his 17 years playing offensive line with the Saskatchewan Roughriders. He was named the CFL’s Most Outstanding Lineman twice, a CFL All-Star five times and helped lead the Riders to a Grey Cup in 2007.

Known as a quiet leader, Gene is committed to giving back to the community. In the off-season he worked as a substitute teacher in the Regina Public School System and always attends as many charity and community events as possible. In 2008, Gene was hired by the provincial government to work with minor football to help aspiring players at the grassroots level in Saskatchewan excel on the football field.

Gene and his wife Tami call Regina home with their three boys, Nicholas, Ryan and Blake.
