Dear Lord. We pray today
for the Honourable Gordon Wyant. We ask that you would bless him with a deep
spiritual walk. May he consistently discover that you are there guiding and
upholding him through all the challenges of life. May you give him a deep
insight into some of the particular challenges of this current season, and may
he be very effective at addressing those issues. Amen.Gordon Wyant was elected as the MLA for Saskatoon Northwest in an October 2010 by-election. He was then re-elected in the 2011 provincial election. After the 2011 election, Gordon was appointed Deputy House Leader and on May 25, 2012 Gordon was sworn in as Minister of Justice and Attorney General. In June 2014 Gordon was also appointed as Minister Responsible for SaskBuilds.
Born and raised in Saskatoon, Gordon was the first Canadian-born member of his family. His parents, originally from Europe, came to Saskatoon in the 1950s when his father was retained as the first Head of the Department of Anaesthesia at the newly opened University Hospital.
He completed his Bachelor of Arts degree with distinction in 1985, and graduated from the College of Law at the University of Saskatchewan in 1986. Shortly after convocation, Gordon began practicing law with the firm of McKercher LLP, where he practiced as a partner until his appointment as Attorney General. In 1987, Gordon received an award for highest standing in the 1987 Bar Admission course. He received his Queen's Counsel designation in 2009.
Since 2000, Gordon has also been an active public servant. He was elected as trustee for the Saskatoon Public School Board in 2000 and served as Chair for two years. He was elected city councillor for Ward 5 in 2003 and was re-elected in 2006 and 2009.
Gordon and his wife Christine Hrudka have four children in their early twenties. In addition to his family, Gordon enjoys writing, skiing and motorcycling. He is also the proud recipient of the Sterling Writing Award for non-fiction, awarded in 1999.

ReplyDeleteWe pray for our province with hopes that those elected to lead, at every level, will work now for your people. We pray these men and women will humble themselves to the sacred task of governing for the people who cast votes, not the corporations and wealthy individuals who paid for influence. We pray for legislators who will care about jobs for the unemployed and underemployed, education and opportunity for children, and health care for all, especially the most vulnerable among us.
We pray for laws that will protect and respect the resources of our province, not a thing to be owned and exploited for profit by a few. We pray for regulations that will harness the hubris and greed of the financial sector. We pray for governance that knows the difference between a financial system and an economy, the one that has become a perverted and unregulated industry, the other a respect for all human life.
We pray for wisdom not rhetoric; generosity not indifference, and justice not patronage. We want legislators working across the aisle, not erecting barriers like the border walls that imprison even those who seek to keep others out. We pray for a just sharing in the expense of government, let those blessed with great wealth give according to their means, let all give as they are able.
We pray for leaders gifted in diplomacy, blessed with character and integrity; leaders who know our security comes from relationships of trust and communication.
For our part give us the patience to give our leaders a chance to govern with grace, compassion, justice, and love. Let us support sincere effort and celebrate wise compromise. Make us accountable to our faith and so hold those we elect accountable to serve all the people, not just those who can afford to pay for self-serving polices.
May we never cease to pray, and to hope, and to work for justice for all.
